Individualized By Design

Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­ in College is a part of the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­ Online campus. Our unique program offers virtual learning support services for adult students with learning disabilities. We serve students with dyslexia, executive functioning difficulties (ADHD), and nonverbal learning disorders (NVLD). This virtual offering is ideal for students in transition, as well as those currently enrolled in college programs.

Focus in College

We modeled our Focus in College program after our highly effective one-to-one Focus program, offered on all of our campuses. The program uses the same research-backed teaching frameworks that have become a cornerstone of a Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­ Prep Education. 
Students who enroll in Focus in College will meet virtually one-to-one in live sessions with a Focus instructor. The goal is to hone any skills they need in order to succeed in the college classroom and beyond. Think of the Focus instructor as a coach who can help students develop the skills to stay focused in college. 

What does online learning disabilities tutoring look like?

That depends entirely on each student’s learning profile and needs. It might include executive functioning strategies for college students with ADHD, such as organization and time management. For students with dyslexia, the Focus program might emphasize reading comprehension skills, writing skills, or reading and decoding. 
All online tutoring and remediation for learning disabilities will address the Qualities of a Sustainable and Independent Learner. We believe students must self-advocate and self-reflect to make the most out of their college experience. Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­ Prep educators frequently teach students how to access college accommodations for students with dyslexia, ADHD, or NVLD. Most importantly, our tutors help adult students understand their own unique learning profiles so they can pursue academic independence. 
The college experience is about more than achieving good grades, a dedicated tutor can work with adult students on social and emotional skills, too. Our Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­ Online students can learn to make and sustain lasting friendships.

  • Who Should Apply?

    All motivated college students with learning disabilities or executive functioning difficulties (ADHD) who would like to build the necessary skills to grow as sustainable and independent learners for college and beyond.

  • What is Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­ Prep’s Application and Acceptance Process?

    Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­ School accepts students on a rolling basis. The application can be completed through School Admin on our website or by contacting rsmith@winstonprep.edu. A neuropsychological or psychoeducational evaluation is required in order to begin considering your application for enrollment. Upon receipt of your application, the Admissions Committee will review your application in an initial screening. If the Committee believes the applicant may be an appropriate match for our services, you will be invited for an interview. Through the admissions process, the Committee begins to develop an understanding of your unique profile of strengths and areas of challenge and identifies whether Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­’s educational philosophy can meet your learning support needs. All applicants will be notified of the Committee’s findings within three weeks of the initial screening and/or interview.

  • How It Works

    Focus sessions are offered virtually either two or three times per week for 50 minutes during a 12-week semester. Students login to their sessions through the designated Google Meet link in a Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­ Online Google Classroom.

    Students will work interactively with their Focus instructor to decide their development goals. Students are then provided with a full initial report of their goals and the instruction methodology based on their personal learning profile. At the conclusion of the semester, students are provided with a final report discussing their work over the semester, growth gains, and a plan for future steps.

  • How is a Students' Focus Program Developed?

    As part of the admissions process, students provide a recent neuropsychological or psychoeducational evaluation, complete a questionnaire, and participate in an interview, which allows our team to develop an understanding of each student’s unique profile of strengths and weaknesses. After the initial meeting with a student to discuss the learning profile and skill development goals. Next, instructors create an individualized curriculum for each student, which is grounded in research. The last day of the 12-week Focus services is dedicated to final assessments, including the QSIL and wrap-up. After the final session, each student will be provided a written report and graded rubric, which will include a summary of how the student progressed throughout each goal area and any suggestions for continued practice and development. And addresses what the student and their instructor together determine the students’ next plan of development is.

  • How Much Does Focus in College Cost?

    Focus in College consists of a 12-week semester, plus one assessment and wrap-up day. The 2-day Focus schedule costs $5,250. The 3-day schedule Focus costs $7,770.
